Dear Nanuet Community,

Today our district learned that an individual at George Miller School and an individual at Academy for Excellence tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, September 23rd.  These people are currently isolating, and due to federal health privacy laws further information about their identity cannot be released.   You are receiving this letter for informational purposes only and you do not need to take any action.

Those students and staff that were exposed to these individuals have already been contacted separately by the school administration.  I know this is concerning news, but please respect the individuals' privacy during this difficult time.

We are working collaboratively with the Rockland County Department of Health, and as always the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority.

Those exposed to these individuals will be mandated to quarantine for 14 days from the last exposure date.   Additionally, it is recommended that any individual experiencing symptoms should get a Covid test; however, not until at least five days after a person's last date of exposure.

Persons identified as a contact of a person who tested positive may receive a call from a NYS Dept. of Health contact tracer. For such calls, your caller ID may read NYS Contact Tracing or display a phone number with a 518 area code.  Please promptly answer these calls. Your identity and the information you share will remain confidential. Please provide Contact Tracers with the information they need to protect all of us.

Visit the NY State Find a Test Site near You webpage and enter your address to view a list and a map view of the nearest testing sites or call 888-364-3065.

This is not the news we wanted to receive, and certainly not so soon into the school year.  However, we will work through this together.

Thank you,

Kevin R. McCahill, Ed. D.

Superintendent of Schools
