Message from the Principal, Mrs. Kelly Maloney

Dear CET Families,

We had a great day here at the CET Ranch today!  If you hadn’t heard by now, there was a Silly String Showdown between Cowgirls Bianchi and Maloney this morning!  All this fun was to acknowledge the money raised for the Scholastic All for Books Challenge!  Easily surpassing the goal of $500, our students (and their families) generously donated $2740.77!  This money will be used to purchase new books for our school library, classrooms, and to provide scholarship gifts. Scholastic will also match the funds we raised to purchase books various charities.

The CET community is very generous in every way imaginable. In addition to donating money for the All for Books Challenge, families have donated close to 300 pairs of new pajamas, pounds of leftover Halloween candy, and lots of canned and boxed food!  Additionally, I know many parents (and even some who don’t have children at CET) purchased Wish List books for classrooms and our school library.  All of this in the past three weeks! Our CET parents are also generous with their time. Many parents volunteered to help with our Scholastic Book Fair in some capacity. Some parents helped transform the gym into a book trading post, while others stocked the shelves and worked the cash register, and others sold baked goods! Kudos to the Book Fair committee for another fabulous and successful Book Fair!  Our food service program could not run without volunteers! Thank you to those who serve food!  And speaking of serving...

Thank you to our Veterans!  Many of our students took the time this week to make cards thanking our Veterans. Mrs. Dinis, our speech pathologist, will be bringing these cards and pictures to the veterans who attend the luncheon at the Croton Yacht Club tomorrow.

I hope y’all enjoy the weekend! Oh, and remember to follow us on Twitter. #CETelementary

Warmly,

Cowgirl Maloney

News from the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Kerri Bianchi

Howdy! The Silly String Showdown rode into CET and the All for Books Coin Challenge was a HUGE success!  The students at CET proved that we can accomplish great things when we work together.  The students were challenged to raise $500 to support the PTA sponsored book fair and raise money for the Kids in Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations.  They were told that if they reached their goal that Ms. Maloney and I would dress like Cowgirls and face off in a Silly String Showdown.  The coin challenge ran from October 30 th - November 3 rd and the amazing students at CET raised $2,740.77. We could not be more proud of their accomplishment and Cowgirl Maloney and Cowgirl Bianchi made their appearance at CET today when they faced off for the showdown.  The showdown allowed the whole school to come together to celebrate their amazing accomplishment.  It was such a pleasure to see the student’s reactions.  We were cheered on with smiles and waves. What a fun day!   Events and accomplishments like this really prove that working together toward a common goal makes a difference.   Ya’ll have a great weekend now!!

Mindfulness for Children

Mindfulness is a “buzz” word that has been around for the past few years. In 2016, I had the opportunity to attend a training on Dialectical Behavior Therapy. In this training, there was a large focus on Mindfulness and the importance of using this practice in order to help make life changes. More recently, our faculty was able to attend a training from Little Flower Yoga centered around Mindfulness. The definition that they use for mindfulness is “paying attention to your life, here and now, with kindness and curiosity, then choosing your behavior.”  You also may have read some more recent articles about Mindfulness practices being related to lower discipline rates and better behavior in schools.  It really is an easy practice that does not only have to be done in school, but can also be done within your home as a family. It’s a refreshing way to start your day and a relaxing way to start your bedtime routine. One activity that we learned as a staff during the training from Little Flower Yoga was called, Layers of Sound. Below is a link so you can try it out at home with your family. It’s an activity that is meant to help you connect your body and mind to your environment. The first time I tried this activity, it helped me to be more present. I hope you enjoy!

CET PTA

We've had a wrangling good time at the Wild West Book Fair! Thanks to all the organizers, volunteers, and shoppers! Our book trading post may look like a ghost town now, but you can still shop online through November 22. CET will get 50% of all online sales to buy more books for the school!

Let's saddle up to the bar and show off what we've learned from a lifetime of reading at Parents' Night Out featuring a Trivia competition! Join us at one of our favorite local watering holes - Green Growler on Monday, November 13 from 7:30-9:30 pm.

We'll also be showing off great new Spirit Wear items along with the rest of the inventory at Winter Craft Night. Your kids will be crafting handmade gifts while you have a chance to catch up with friends, and peruse the Tiger pride offerings. We'll need plenty of volunteers on hand to make this a success, so please stay tuned for the SignUpGenius information or email CETPTA@gmail.com to let us know you're interested.

Orange and black may not be your first choice for holiday photos and cards, but you can still support CET in those efforts too. Shop on Shutterfly and Tiny Prints using this link  http://cet.shutterflystorefront.com/ and 13% of your order will benefit the CET PTA!

We're always eager to hear from you, so don't be shy! Join us at a meeting, or email us at any time with questions or suggestions: CETPTA@gmail.com
